Activate eSIM NTC Nepal: Step-by-Step Guide

How to Activate an NTC eSIM in Nepal (2026): Price, Online Process and QR Setup

Written by Wilson Shrestha Last updated: September 7, 2026 Checked against Nepal Telecom's current eSIM process

Quick answer

You can activate an NTC eSIM without leaving home. Go to esim.ntc.net.np or open the Nepal Telecom app, choose Physical SIM to eSIM if you already have an NTC number, or Get New Prepaid eSIM if you want a fresh number. Verify with an OTP, upload your citizenship photo, wait for approval, then download the QR code and scan it in your phone's settings.

NTC eSIM price in Nepal

Nepal Telecom charges a small one-time fee. There is no separate monthly cost for using an eSIM instead of a physical SIM — your existing packs, balance and number stay exactly the same.

A note on the price

Some Nepali tech sites report new eSIM connections at Rs 140 — that is the Rs 90 SIM price plus a Rs 50 eSIM profile charge. Nepal Telecom's own portal shows the standard SIM price for new prepaid eSIMs. Check the amount on the payment screen before you confirm, since it is the only figure that is guaranteed to be current.

What you need before you start

  • An eSIM-compatible phone. Check with *#06# — see the next section.
  • Your citizenship certificate — the original, in hand. You will be asked to photograph it live; uploading an old photo from your gallery is rejected.
  • A clear image of the citizenship, front and back, under 300 KB. Prepare this before you start so the form does not time out.
  • At least Rs 50 balance on the number you are converting, since the fee is deducted from it.
  • KYC details that match. Your citizenship number and issued district must match what NTC has on record. If they do not, the online check fails and you will need to visit an office.
  • Wi-Fi or another internet connection. Your physical SIM stops working the moment the eSIM activates, so do not rely on that SIM's data to finish the last step.
Save the QR code

An eSIM profile can usually only be installed once. Download the QR image, email it to yourself, and keep a copy somewhere off the phone. If you factory-reset or change devices without it, you will have to go to an NTC office for a re-issue.

Is your phone eSIM compatible?

The fastest check takes ten seconds. With a working SIM in the phone, open the dialler and enter *#06#. If the screen shows an EID number alongside the IMEI, your phone has an eSIM chip. No EID means no eSIM support, and no NTC counter can change that.

Phones sold in Nepal that support eSIM include:

  • Apple: iPhone 11 series and everything newer, up to the iPhone 17 series.
  • Samsung: Galaxy S21 series onward, plus the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold families.
  • Others: recent OnePlus flagships and a growing set of midrange phones such as the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ and Note 15 Pro+.
  • Beyond phones: eSIM-capable smartwatches, tablets and laptops also work on the NTC network.
iPhones brought from the US

US iPhone 14 models and newer have no SIM tray at all. They work in Nepal on NTC eSIM, but the handset must be registered with the government's MDMS system before it will connect. Sort the MDMS registration out first, then apply for the eSIM.

How to convert your existing NTC SIM to an eSIM online

This is the route most people want: same number, same packs, no office visit. It works for both prepaid and postpaid customers.

  1. Open the eSIM portalGo to esim.ntc.net.np in a browser, or open the Nepal Telecom app (sometimes listed as the NT or MyNTC app) and tap eSIM. Update the app first if you do not see the option.
  2. Choose "Physical SIM to eSIM"The portal also offers "Get New Prepaid eSIM" — that one is for a new number, covered below.
  3. Enter your 10-digit NTC numberThis must be the number you want converted.
  4. Verify with the OTPA six-digit code arrives by SMS. Enter it and continue.
  5. Enter your citizenship number and issued districtThe system checks these against NTC's KYC records. A "Verification Successful" message means you can proceed.
  6. Tap "Apply for eSIM" and fill in your detailsThen upload the front-and-back citizenship image you prepared, keeping it under 300 KB.
  7. Take the live photoThe camera opens on its own. Hold your original citizenship certificate up and take the picture as instructed. Gallery uploads are not accepted here.
  8. Submit and wait for approvalYou will see a "Request Pending" screen. NTC reviews the documents; approval commonly comes through within minutes, though it can take longer at busy times.
  9. Download the QR code and install itOnce approved, the Activate option appears. Download the QR, then follow the installation steps further down this guide. Your physical SIM stops working at this point.

How to get a brand-new NTC prepaid eSIM online

Since May 2026, you no longer need to visit a counter to buy a new NTC number either. The portal sells new prepaid eSIMs directly, and you get to pick your number from what is available.

  1. Go to the portal and choose "Get New Prepaid eSIM"At esim.ntc.net.np.
  2. Register an account with your emailConfirm it with the OTP that is sent to you.
  3. Pick your numberThe portal shows the prepaid numbers currently available. Choose the one you want.
  4. Complete the SIM registration formThis is the same KYC information you would fill in at a counter, including your citizenship details and a document photo.
  5. Pay digitallyWallets and QR payment are accepted.
  6. Scan the QR code you receiveInstall the profile through your phone's settings and the new number is live.

How to get an NTC eSIM at an NTC office

If the online verification fails — mismatched KYC is the usual reason — the counter route still works and is often faster to resolve.

  1. Go to any NTC office or customer service centreeSIM is available nationwide, not just in Kathmandu.
  2. Bring the original citizenship certificate and a photocopy of both sidesBring the phone you want the eSIM installed on, too.
  3. Fill in the eSIM upgrade or new-connection formThe registered owner of the number must be present in person. Staff cannot upgrade a SIM registered in someone else's name.
  4. Staff activate the profileThis usually takes three to five minutes at the counter.
  5. Keep the printed slipIt carries your QR code, ICCID and activation code. You will need it if you ever change or reset your phone.

Prepaid vs postpaid: what changes

Very little. NTC offers eSIM on both, the conversion fee is the same, and the online process is identical. Postpaid customers keep their billing cycle and plan untouched — the number is simply delivered as a profile instead of a plastic card. The one practical difference is that prepaid users need Rs 50 sitting in their balance for the online fee, while a new-number purchase through the portal is currently prepaid only.

How to install the NTC eSIM QR code

Connect to Wi-Fi before you begin, and keep the QR code open on a second screen — a laptop, another phone, or a printout. You cannot scan a QR that is displayed on the same phone you are installing it to.

On iPhone

  1. Open Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Service).
  2. Tap Add eSIM or Add Data Plan.
  3. Scan the QR code from NTC.
  4. Confirm and label the plan — "NTC" makes the dual-SIM screens easier to read.
  5. Choose whether NTC is your default line for calls and for mobile data, then tap Done.

On Android

  1. Open Settings → Network & Internet (Samsung: Connections).
  2. Go to SIM Card Manager or Mobile Network, then tap Add eSIM or Add Mobile Plan.
  3. Choose Scan carrier QR code and scan the code.
  4. Tap OK when prompted to turn on the new plan.

When the profile registers, you will get an SMS from NTC confirming the eSIM is active. Finish by turning on VoLTE: dial *444*2#, enable VoLTE in your phone's network settings, and restart the device. Without this step, calls on some handsets will not connect properly on 4G.

Common problems and how to fix them

Citizenship verification fails on the portal
Your KYC record at NTC does not match what you entered — a common issue on numbers registered years ago, or where the issued district was recorded differently. There is no online fix. Take your original citizenship to an NTC office and have the record updated.
The document upload keeps getting rejected
The image must be under 300 KB and must clearly show both sides. Compress the photo rather than cropping detail away. For the live photo step, use good daylight and hold the certificate flat and steady.
The QR code will not scan
Display it on a different screen at full brightness — you cannot scan a code shown on the same phone. If it still fails, most phones offer "Enter details manually," where you can type the activation code from your NTC slip instead.
The QR was already used
Each profile is single-use. If you reset your phone or moved devices, the profile is gone and needs re-issuing at an NTC office. This is the single most common eSIM regret in Nepal, and the reason to back up that QR immediately.
eSIM installed but there is no network
Check that the eSIM line is switched on in your SIM manager, that mobile data is assigned to it, and that data roaming settings have not carried over from an old profile. Toggle airplane mode on and off, then restart. If the bars still do not appear after ten minutes, call NTC on 1498.
Calls fail or drop after switching
VoLTE is usually the culprit. Dial *444*2#, turn VoLTE on in settings, and restart the phone.
You want to go back to a physical SIM
That is possible, but it cannot be done online. Visit an NTC office with your citizenship and request the reversal.
Still stuck?

Nepal Telecom's customer care number is 1498 from an NTC line, and any NTC customer service centre can look up the status of a pending eSIM request. Current service details are published on the Nepal Telecom official website.

Frequently asked questions

Does NTC eSIM cost anything extra every month?

No. The only charge is the one-time fee — Rs 50 to convert an existing number, or the standard SIM price for a new one. Your packs and tariffs stay the same.

Do I keep my number when I convert?

Yes. Converting a physical SIM to eSIM keeps the same number, balance and active packs. Only the physical card is retired.

How long does NTC eSIM activation take?

Activation itself takes about ten minutes once your request is approved. At a counter, staff usually complete the whole thing in three to five minutes.

Can I use an NTC eSIM in India?

Yes, once you have activated international roaming on the number. The eSIM behaves the same as a physical SIM abroad.

Can someone else convert my SIM for me?

No. The registered owner must be present at the counter, and the online route verifies your citizenship details against the number's KYC record.

Do eSIM-only iPhones from the US work in Nepal?

Yes. Since both NTC and Ncell support eSIM, US iPhone 14, 15, 16 and 17 models work here. The handset does need to be MDMS-registered.

Can I have NTC eSIM and another SIM at the same time?

Yes, if your phone supports it. Most eSIM phones let you run one physical SIM and one eSIM together, and many newer models support two eSIM profiles.

What happens to my eSIM if I lose my phone?

The profile is tied to the device. Report the loss to NTC, and get the eSIM re-issued at an office for your replacement handset.

1. WorldLink Standard Residential Internet Packages

These are WorldLink’s most popular and cheapest home plans, and their prices did not change in the October 2026 update. They come with a dual-band router, unlimited data (subject to Fair Usage Policy), 5 Wi-Fi Express logins and the Service Guarantee (money back for slow internet). You can take them internet-only, with NETTV, or with a Nokia Beacon mesh router — the internet price stays the same; TV and Beacon are charged separately.

How Much Does WorldLink Really Cost Per Month?

Longer plans are much cheaper per month. The table below divides each plan’s price by its duration so you can compare fairly. The last column adds 13% VAT, which is what you actually pay.

Plan (12 months)Yearly pricePer month (excl. VAT)Per month (incl. VAT)
Standard 200 MbpsRs. 12,600Rs. 1,050≈ Rs. 1,186
Standard 250 MbpsRs. 13,800Rs. 1,150≈ Rs. 1,299
Standard 300 MbpsRs. 15,600Rs. 1,300≈ Rs. 1,469
6G Premium 200 MbpsRs. 14,894Rs. 1,241≈ Rs. 1,403
6G Pro 400 MbpsRs. 16,248Rs. 1,354≈ Rs. 1,530
6G Ultra 500 MbpsRs. 17,168Rs. 1,431≈ Rs. 1,617
6G Max 600 MbpsRs. 20,000Rs. 1,667≈ Rs. 1,883
Photon 600 MbpsRs. 30,000Rs. 2,500≈ Rs. 2,825
Photon 1 GbpsRs. 39,999Rs. 3,333≈ Rs. 3,767

Example 1 – Standard: The 200 Mbps plan costs Rs. 1,300 per month on a monthly plan, but only Rs. 1,050 per month on a yearly plan — a saving of Rs. 3,000 a year before VAT. A new 200 Mbps yearly connection costs about Rs. 14,238 (package incl. VAT) + Rs. 1,000 refundable deposit ≈ Rs. 15,238 on day one.

Example 2 – WorldLink 6G: A new 6G Premium 200 Mbps yearly connection costs about Rs. 16,830 (package incl. VAT) + Rs. 3,000 setup ≈ Rs. 19,830 on day one, of which Rs. 1,000 is a refundable deposit.

Which WorldLink Package Should You Choose?

  • 1–3 people, normal browsing, YouTube, video calls: Standard 200 Mbps is enough — and after the 6G price rise it is clearly the best value.
  • Family of 4–6 with streaming on several TVs/phones: Standard 250–300 Mbps, or 6G Pro 400 Mbps if Wi-Fi is weak in some rooms.
  • Two or more floors / Wi-Fi dead zones: choose a WorldLink 6G plan or add a Nokia Beacon — coverage matters more than raw speed.
  • Online gamers: Gamers Pack or a 6G plan for lower latency.
  • Content creators, big uploads, home office with many devices: 6G Max 600 Mbps (Rs. 20,000/year) or 1 Gbps.
  • Shop, office or restaurant: SME+ plans.

After the October 2026 price change, 6G Premium 200 Mbps costs Rs. 2,294 more per year than Standard 200 Mbps, and its setup charge is Rs. 2,000 higher. 6G is worth paying for if you have many devices or Wi-Fi coverage problems; if you simply want the cheapest reliable connection, the Standard plans are now the better deal.

WorldLink Fair Usage Policy (FUP)

All WorldLink plans are “unlimited”, but a dynamic Fair Usage Policy applies. Normal users (social media, YouTube, Netflix, video calls) rarely notice it; very heavy downloading or torrenting may reduce speed for a while. Higher-speed plans get a bigger allowance. You can track your usage in the myWorldLink app — follow our guide to check WorldLink data usage online.

How to Buy or Renew a WorldLink Package

  1. New connection: choose a plan on worldlink.com.np and pay online (Khalti for the cashback offer), or visit a WorldLink branch.
  2. Renewal: renew through the myWorldLink app, the customer portal, or WorldLink’s e-payment page.
  3. After installation: set your own Wi-Fi name and password — here’s how to change your WorldLink Wi-Fi password.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest WorldLink internet package in Nepal?

The cheapest plan is 200 Mbps for Rs. 1,300 per month. On a yearly plan it costs Rs. 12,600 (Rs. 1,050 per month before VAT), and on the 24-month plan it costs Rs. 17,990 (about Rs. 750 per month).

Did WorldLink increase its prices in October 2026?

Yes, for WorldLink 6G (Wi-Fi 6) plans. For example, 6G 200 Mbps went from Rs. 13,000 to Rs. 14,894 per year and from Rs. 3,450 to Rs. 4,248 for 3 months. The 6G 600 Mbps yearly plan stayed at Rs. 20,000. Standard, 24-month and Photon plan prices did not change.

Are WorldLink prices inclusive of VAT?

No. All listed prices exclude 13% VAT. The Telecom Service Charge (TSC) is already included in the internet price.

How much is WorldLink installation charge?

Standard plans need only a Rs. 1,000 refundable ONU deposit (drop cable and installation are free). WorldLink 6G plans now cost Rs. 3,000 on a 12-month plan and Rs. 4,000 on a 3-month plan (router rental, Rs. 1,000 deposit and drop cable). 600 Mbps and 1 Gbps Photon plans need only a Rs. 500 deposit.

How much does WorldLink with NETTV cost?

For Standard plans, the internet price is the same; the primary NETTV box costs Rs. 3,164 on a 3-month plan (Rs. 1,500 rental, Rs. 1,000 deposit, Rs. 664 channels). WorldLink 6G with Cine+ starts at Rs. 4,867 for 3 months (200 Mbps), plus a Rs. 3,700 set-top box charge.

What is the price of WorldLink 1 Gbps?

WorldLink 1 Gbps costs Rs. 39,999 per year and Photon 600 Mbps costs Rs. 30,000 per year. Both are available in selected areas only. If you just need 600 Mbps, the 6G Max plan is cheaper at Rs. 20,000 per year.

Is WorldLink data unlimited?

Yes, but a dynamic Fair Usage Policy applies to prevent network abuse. Most households never reach it.

Can existing customers get the new plan prices?

Many of the online plans (including 6G and the Khalti cashback) are marked for new customers. Existing customers should check upgrade options in the myWorldLink app or with customer support.

Ncell SMS Pack 2026: Price List, Activation Code & Which Pack Is Actually Worth It

Updated: 29 September 2026 · Prices checked against Ncell’s official Packs & Plans page · All prices include taxes

Looking for the cheapest way to text on Ncell? Ncell currently sells four All Network SMS packs, from a Rs 15 one-day pack to a Rs 125 pack with 850 SMS for 28 days. They work for Ncell, NTC and every other local network, and you activate them by dialing *17119#.

This guide gives you the verified 2026 Ncell SMS pack price list, the real cost of each SMS, a simple way to pick the right pack, and the small rules (Unicode messages, stacking, pack priority) that most other sites never explain.

Quick Answer

  • Activation code: Dial *17119#, or buy from the Ncell App → SMS pack section.
  • Check remaining SMS: Dial *901#.
  • Best value: Rs 125 for 850 SMS (28 days) – about 14.7 paisa per SMS.
  • Cheapest to buy: Rs 15 for 100 SMS (1 day).
  • Who can buy: All Ncell prepaid and postpaid customers.

Ncell SMS Pack Price List 2026

These are all the SMS-only packs Ncell offers right now. The “cost per SMS” column is our own calculation (price ÷ number of SMS), so you can compare packs fairly.

Which Ncell SMS Pack Gives the Best Value?

When you break each pack down to the cost of a single message, the picture is clear. Three packs cost roughly 15 paisa per SMS. One pack costs more than double that.

Cost per SMS by pack (lower is better)

Rs 125 · 850 SMS · 28 days14.7 paisa
Rs 15 · 100 SMS · 1 day15 paisa
Rs 45 · 300 SMS · 7 days15 paisa
Rs 98 · 300 SMS · 28 days32.7 paisa

The takeaway: the Rs 98 pack is the weakest deal on the list. For just Rs 27 more, the Rs 125 pack gives you 550 extra SMS with the same 28-day validity. Only pick Rs 98 if you are sure you will never send more than 300 messages in a month and every rupee matters.

SMS Pack vs Normal Ncell SMS Rate: How Much You Save

Without a pack, Ncell charges its normal Sajilo tariff rate for every message:

Ncell to Ncell

Rs 1.27 / SMS

Ncell to other networks (NTC, Smart)

Rs 1.39 / SMS

So when does a pack start paying for itself? Here is the break-even point for each pack at the all-network rate of Rs 1.39:

PackWorth it if you send more thanNormal cost of full packYou save
Rs 15 / 1 day11 SMS in a dayRs 139Rs 124 (89%)
Rs 45 / 7 days33 SMS in a weekRs 417Rs 372 (89%)
Rs 98 / 28 days71 SMS in 28 daysRs 417Rs 319 (76%)
Rs 125 / 28 days90 SMS in 28 daysRs 1,181.50Rs 1,056.50 (89%)

Sending 850 SMS to any network: normal rate vs Rs 125 pack

Without a packRs 1,181.50
With the Rs 125 packRs 125

Put simply: if you send even a dozen messages on a busy day, the Rs 15 pack already beats paying per SMS.

How to Activate an Ncell SMS Pack

You can buy any Ncell SMS pack in three ways. The USSD code works on every phone, including basic keypad phones.

Method 1: Using the USSD Code *17119#

1

Open your phone dialer and dial *17119#.

2

Choose the SMS pack option from the menu.

3

Select the pack you want (Rs 15, 45, 98 or 125) and confirm.

4

Wait for the confirmation SMS. Your pack is now active.

Make sure you have enough main balance before you dial. If your balance is short, the purchase simply fails.

Method 2: Using the Ncell App

  • Open the Ncell App (free on Android and iOS) and log in with your number.
  • Go to the SMS pack section under Packs.
  • Tap the pack you want and confirm the purchase.

The app is handy because it also shows your remaining SMS, data and voice balance on one screen.

Method 3: From the Ncell Website

Visit Ncell’s Packs & Plans page, scroll to Ncell SMS Packs, and tap Via Website under the pack you want. Follow the on-screen steps to confirm with your Ncell number.

For every other Ncell code (balance, data packs, Saapati, call forwarding), see our full list of Ncell activation and deactivation codes.

How to Check Your Remaining Ncell SMS

Dial *901#. Ncell will show the SMS left in your pack. You can also see it in the Ncell App on the home screen balance section.

Which Ncell SMS Pack Should You Buy?

Match the pack to how you actually text. Most people overbuy or pick the Rs 98 pack out of habit.

You text a lot on one day only

Dashain, Tihar or New Year wishes, event invitations, a class announcement.

→ Rs 15 (100 SMS, 1 day)

You text most days, but not heavily

Family updates, coordinating with friends, around 5 to 40 SMS a day.

→ Rs 45 (300 SMS, 7 days)

You want to set it and forget it for a month

Small shop owners, tuition teachers, anyone sending reminders to customers.

→ Rs 125 (850 SMS, 28 days)

You mostly use Viber or WhatsApp

You only text people who are not online. A data pack with free SMS may cover you (see below).

→ Skip the SMS pack, check your data pack

Important Rules Before You Buy

These conditions come from Ncell’s own FAQ for the All Network SMS Pack:

  • All networks, any time: The SMS work to Ncell, NTC and other local operators, 24 hours a day.
  • Shortest validity is used first: If you have more than one SMS pack, the one expiring soonest is used up first.
  • You can buy again and again: The SMS count adds up each time you buy.
  • The last purchase sets validity: Ncell says the validity of your latest pack applies. So be careful: topping up a 28-day balance with a 1-day pack may cut your remaining validity. When in doubt, buy the same or a longer pack.
  • After the pack runs out: Normal rates apply (Rs 1.27 or Rs 1.39 per SMS).
  • Local SMS only: International SMS are charged separately at Rs 6.34 or Rs 12.67 per message, depending on the country.

Ncell Packs That Already Include Free SMS

Many people buy an SMS pack without realizing their data or combo pack already gives them daily SMS. Check this list before paying twice:

PackPriceValidityMain benefitFree SMS
Day Unlimited Voice PackRs 221 dayUnlimited Ncell calls, 5 AM–5 PM100 Ncell-to-Ncell
Data PackRs 501 day5 GB, then unlimited100 / day
Data PackRs 993 days10 GB, then unlimited100 / day
Data PackRs 2007 days20 GB, then unlimited100 / day
Data + Call PackRs 2497 days20 GB + unlimited calls100 / day
Super Value PackRs 449 / 599 / 69930 days7–50 GB + unlimited All Nepal calls100 / day
Super Value PackRs 799 / 1,19930 daysUnlimited data (FUP) + calls150 / day
Super Value PackRs 2,299 / 4,499 / 8,49990 / 180 / 365 daysUnlimited data (FUP) + calls150 / day
Data Combo PackRs 1,699 / 6,49990 / 365 daysUnlimited calls + 25 GB/month100 / day

If you are on a Super Value Pack, you already get 3,000 to 4,500 SMS a month. Buying a separate SMS pack on top of that is usually wasted money.

Why Your SMS Count Drops Faster Than Expected (Nepali Unicode)

This is the part almost no other guide mentions, and it catches a lot of people during festivals.

One SMS is not “one message you type.” It is a fixed number of characters. Once you go past that limit, your phone quietly splits the text into several SMS, and each part is deducted from your pack.

Type of messageCharacters in 1 SMSPer part in a long message
Plain English (no emoji)160153
Nepali (Devanagari) or any text with emoji7067

From my own experience

The first Dashain I bought the Rs 15 pack to send greetings, I wrote a warm three-line message in Nepali and sent it to my contact list. I expected to reach about 100 people. The pack was gone after roughly 30. Each greeting was around 180 Devanagari characters, so every single message counted as 3 SMS.

Now I keep festival wishes short: one line in Nepali, or a slightly longer version in English with no emoji. The same Rs 15 pack then covers almost everyone.

Quick tips to stretch your pack:

  • Keep Nepali messages under 70 characters when you can.
  • Avoid emoji in English messages. One emoji switches the whole text to the 70-character limit.
  • For long greetings to many people, the Rs 45 or Rs 125 pack is safer than Rs 15.

Ncell vs NTC SMS Rates

If you carry both SIMs, here is how normal SMS charges compare (without any pack):

OperatorSame networkOther networkNote
NcellRs 1.27Rs 1.39Tax included
NTC (Namaste)Re 1Rs 1.25Before tax

Once taxes are added, the per-SMS rates are close. The real savings on either network come from packs. For NTC codes and packs, see our NTC USSD codes list and the guide to activating and deactivating NTC services.

Old Ncell SMS Packs That No Longer Work

Many websites still list Ncell SMS offers from years ago. If you try them, the menu will not show them. These are no longer on Ncell’s current pack list:

  • Mazzako / “Kya Majjako” SMS Pack (150 SMS for Rs 5, 1,000 SMS for Rs 19–25, Ncell-only)
  • Ramailo SMS (Rs 2 daily fee, 10 paisa per SMS)
  • Night SMS Pack (100 SMS for Rs 5, 10 PM–6 AM)
  • Rs 26 All Net 100 SMS for 3 days
  • Weekly / Monthly SMS via 17144 and SMS packs under *17118# (now used for voice packs)

The four All Network packs in the price list above are what Ncell sells today.

Ncell SMS Pack Not Working? Try This

  • Purchase failed: Check your balance with *101# or *901#. You need at least the pack price in your main balance. Short by a few rupees? A friend can transfer Ncell balance to you in seconds.
  • Being charged per SMS: Dial *901# to confirm the pack is active and has SMS left. Your pack may have expired at midnight on its last day.
  • Pack used up too fast: Long or Nepali messages count as multiple SMS (see the Unicode section above).
  • Short codes and value-added services: SMS to service numbers (votes, alerts, subscriptions) may be billed at their own rate, not from your pack.
  • Still stuck: Call Ncell customer care at 9005 or raise a ticket from the Ncell App.

Balance disappearing? Find and stop the cause

Most people searching to deactivate a service are really trying to stop a charge they do not understand. Work through these steps in order.

  1. Note your balance. Dial *101# and write down the amount, then check again after a few hours.
  2. Check data and packs. Dial *901# to see active packs and validity. A data pack that renewed or background app data can drain balance quickly.
  3. Look at recurring services. Caller tunes and My Five can be set to renew automatically each month, so they keep charging even if you forgot them.
  4. Clear call forwarding. Dial ##002#. Forwarded calls can cost you money even when you never answer them.
  5. Still unexplained? Call Ncell customer care on 9005 from your Ncell SIM and ask for the list of services active on your number.
Good habit: after you buy any pack or subscription, check the confirmation SMS for the validity and whether it renews automatically.

  2. Type the full code, including the * and #.
  3. Press the green call button and wait for the pop-up reply.

  • Switch off forwarding, caller tunes and roaming when you no longer use them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I activate and deactivate Ncell services?

Dial the service’s USSD code to activate it, for example *17123# for data packs. Call forwarding and call waiting have direct off codes (##002#, #43#). For packs, caller tunes and other subscriptions, use the service menu, the Ncell App or call customer care on 9005.

What is the code to check balance in Ncell?

Dial *101# or *901#. It is free and shows your main balance and validity.

How do I activate the Ncell voice pack?

How can I borrow balance from Ncell?

Dial *9988# to use Ncell Sapati and choose balance, minutes or data. The amount is deducted from your next recharge.

How do I transfer balance to another Ncell number?

There is no public off code. Call customer care on 9005 from your Ncell SIM and ask them to deactivate it.

Do USSD codes cost money?

Information codes such as balance, number and owner checks are free. Buying packs, transfers and loans use your balance.

Activate and Deactivate NTC Services 2026: Stop Balance Deduction

How to activate and deactivate NTC services and stop balance deduction

How to Activate and Deactivate NTC Services (2026): Stop Unwanted Balance Deduction

Last updated: 27 September 2026 · Codes checked against Nepal Telecom's official Useful Short Codes page. Covers Namaste prepaid and postpaid mobile, plus landline and NT Fiber support.

Balance disappearing? Do these five things first

  1. Turn off pay-as-you-go data: dial *444# → option 4 → disable PAYG.
  2. Stop your caller tune: send UNSUB to 1455.
  3. Stop Missed Call Alert: dial *1400*2#.
  4. Stop Namaste Credit (loan): dial *1477# and choose deactivate.
  5. Still losing money? Call 1498 (free) and ask which value-added services are active on your number.

Most people land on this page for one reason: money is leaving their NTC balance and they don't know why. Readers in the comments below have described the same pattern for years — a game or entertainment pack subscribed by one accidental tap, a caller tune from a festival offer, or data that kept running on pay-as-you-go after a pack ran out.

This guide is organised around fixing that. First, the causes of automatic balance deduction and how to check each one. Then every NTC service that can be switched on or off, with the activate and deactivate code side by side. If you only need a code for checking balance, recharging or transferring, our full NTC USSD codes list has all of them in one place.

Why Is My NTC Balance Deducting Automatically?

Nepal Telecom does not remove balance at random. Every deduction comes from something active on your line. These are the usual culprits, roughly in order of how often they cause the problem:

  • Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) data. When a data pack runs out, mobile data used to continue at the standard per-MB rate straight from your main balance. This is the single biggest cause, and since April 2026 you can switch it off (next section).
  • Third-party value-added services (VAS). Game, puzzle and entertainment packs such as Telenet Games renew daily or weekly until you cancel them.
  • Caller Ring Back Tone (CRBT). A caller tune has a recurring subscription fee, separate from the song itself.
  • Missed Call Alert (MCA). A small recurring charge that is easy to forget about.
  • Namaste Credit repayment. If you borrowed balance, the loan and its fee are taken from your next recharge — which looks like missing money if you forgot you borrowed.
  • Recurring data packs. Some packs renew automatically at the end of their validity. Check your active packs in the Nepal Telecom app, or ask 1498 to cancel the renewal.
Check before you cancel

Dial *400# for your main balance and *1415*55# for remaining data and validity. If you have a data pack left and balance is still dropping, the cause is a VAS or caller tune rather than PAYG.

How to Turn Off PAYG Data on NTC (New in 2026)

In April 2026, Nepal Telecom added an option to disable pay-as-you-go data. With PAYG off, your mobile data simply stops when a pack ends instead of drawing from your main balance.

  1. Dial *444# from your NTC SIM.
  2. Choose option 4 (PAYG).
  3. Select Disable. You should receive a confirmation that PAYG data is disabled.

To turn it back on, repeat the same steps and choose Enable. NTC has also started sending a notification once you've used about 90% of a data pack, so keep an eye out for that message.

When to keep PAYG on

If you rely on data for something that can't stop mid-way — a ride-hailing app while travelling, or a payment in progress — PAYG gives you a buffer. For most people who buy packs regularly, turning it off is the safer default.

All NTC Services: Activate and Deactivate Codes

Every service you can switch on or off yourself, with both directions side by side. Official means the code is listed on Nepal Telecom's own short-code page. Reported means it is in use and covered by Nepali telecom news sites but not yet on that page. Unconfirmed means it comes from older guides and may have changed — if one fails, call 1498.

How to Deactivate Games, Caller Tunes and Other Paid Services

Telenet Games and other third-party packs

Game and entertainment packs are the services readers complain about most. They're usually triggered by tapping an ad or a pop-up, and they renew every week until cancelled. To cancel Telenet Games & Entertainment, send UNSUB GAMES to 1422.

Several readers have reported that this SMS returns an error or that they can't send SMS at all once the balance is drained. If that happens, don't keep retrying — call 1498 from the affected SIM, tell the agent the name of the service in the charge message, and ask them to remove it. You can also check subscribed services in the Nepal Telecom app.

Caller Ring Back Tone (CRBT)

Send UNSUB to 1455. This cancels the subscription itself, not just the current song, so the recurring fee stops.

Missed Call Alert

Dial *1400*2# or send UNSUB to 1400 to turn it off. Dial *1400*1# or send SUB to 1400 to turn it back on.

Namaste Credit

Dial *1477# and choose the deactivate option to switch off the loan service so it can't be taken by accident. Many guides also list sending STOP to 1477, but the USSD menu is the method Nepal Telecom currently lists. Any outstanding loan is still recovered from your next recharge. For eligibility and repayment details, see how to take a loan (sapati) on NTC.

Call Forwarding, Call Waiting and International Calling

These don't cost money by themselves, but a wrong setting can make your phone seem broken.

  • Calls not reaching you? Dial *#21# to see whether forwarding is active, then ##002# to cancel every diversion at once.
  • Call waiting lets a second call come through while you're on the first. Turn it on with *43# and off with #43#.
  • International calling (ISD) uses the GSM barring convention, so the codes look reversed: #331*0000# removes the bar (calls allowed) and *331*0000# sets it (calls blocked). Blocking ISD is sensible on a SIM you lend to someone.
Never dial a code a stranger reads to you

Scam callers pretending to be from NTC or a bank ask people to dial a code starting with **21* followed by a mobile number. That forwards all your calls — including voice OTPs — to them. If you've dialled one, run ##002# immediately and call 1498.

International Roaming, 4G and VoLTE

Prepaid users can activate roaming before leaving Nepal by dialling *1415*7# and choosing the roaming option, or through the Nepal Telecom app. Activation and deactivation are free, and Nepal Telecom recommends switching roaming off when you return. Postpaid roaming is arranged at an NTC office.

For 4G and VoLTE, dial *444#. If the menu says your SIM isn't 4G-capable, no code will fix it; you'll need a SIM swap at an NTC office, or you can consider an NTC eSIM.

Balance Still Deducting and You Can't Identify the Service?

  1. Read the charge SMS. Most VAS providers send a message when they charge you. The service name and short code in that message tell you where to send UNSUB.
  2. Open the Nepal Telecom app and check your subscribed services and recent usage.
  3. Call 1498 from the NTC SIM. It's free, and the agent can list and remove active value-added services.
  4. Visit an NTC service centre with your citizenship or ID if the charges continue after cancellation, and ask for a usage statement.
