How to Transfer Balance from NTC to NTC (2026): USSD Code, App & Self-Care
By Wilson Shrestha · Last checked against Nepal Telecom’s official Balance Transfer page on 28 September 2026
Quick answer
To transfer balance from one NTC number to another, dial *422*SecurityCode*RecipientNumber*Amount# from your NTC prepaid SIM.
Don’t know your security code? Send SCODE to 1415 by SMS.
No code at all? Use Transfer Balance in the Nepal Telecom app, or Self-Care on ntc.net.np.
Limits: Rs. 10 to Rs. 500 per transfer, up to 20 transfers a day, prepaid GSM only.

I’ve used an NTC prepaid line as my main number for more than a decade, and balance transfer is still the fastest way to help someone who has run out of credit in the middle of a call or before a data pack renewal. The process is simple once you understand the code, but most people get stuck on one of three things: the security code, the Rs. 500 limit, or a vague “Connection problem or invalid MMI code” error.
This guide covers all three official methods, shows you how the USSD code is built piece by piece, and adds what most guides skip: which method to pick, how to send more than Rs. 500, what to do when a transfer fails, and how people lose their balance to security-code scams.
Nepal Telecom officially supports three ways to send balance: the Nepal Telecom app, a USSD code, and Self-Care on its website. They all move the same balance with the same limits. The difference is what you need on hand.

NO internet
Use the USSD code. Works on any phone, including basic keypad phones.
You’ll need your 8-digit security code (SMS SCODE to 1415).
YES, I have internet
On a smartphone, use the Nepal Telecom app. On a laptop, use Self-Care at ntc.net.np.
The app confirms with a one-time password (OTP) sent to your phone.

Method 1: Transfer Balance from NTC to NTC Using the USSD Code
This is the classic method and the only one that works with zero internet. It takes three steps.
Step 1: Get your NTC security code
Open your SMS app on the phone with the NTC SIM.
Type SCODE and send it to 1415.
You’ll get an SMS reply with your 8-digit security code. Save it somewhere private, not in a note anyone else can open.
The security code is tied to your SIM, not to one transfer, so you usually only need to request it once.
Step 2: Build the code (it’s easier than it looks)
The official format is *422*SecurityCode*DestinationNumber*Amount#. Every piece is separated by a star, and the whole thing ends with a hash:
Type the amount as a plain number: 100, not “Rs. 100” or “100.00”.
Type the receiver’s full 10-digit mobile number with no spaces or dashes.
Don’t add a star before the final hash.
Step 3: Dial, then confirm it worked
Press the call button. On a dual-SIM phone, make sure you’re dialling from the NTC SIM.
Wait for the on-screen message and the confirmation SMS.
Dial *400# to check your remaining balance, and ask the receiver to do the same.
From experience
When I’m sending to a number I’ve never typed before, I send the minimum Rs. 10 first and wait for the other person to confirm it arrived. It costs one of your 20 daily transfers, but it’s the cheapest insurance against a single wrong digit, because a transfer to the wrong number can’t simply be undone.
Method 2: Transfer Balance with the Nepal Telecom App
If you have a smartphone and data (or Wi-Fi), the app is the easiest route because it confirms with an OTP instead of making you remember a code.
Install the official Nepal Telecom app from the Play Store or App Store.
Register or log in with your NTC mobile number.
Tap Transfer Balance on the home screen.
Enter the receiver’s NTC number and the amount (Rs. 10–500).
Confirm, then enter the OTP sent to your phone to complete the transfer.
Nepal Telecom’s own app FAQ says you can send balance from your prepaid mobile to any other NT mobile this way. If a newer version of the app ever asks for a security code, it’s the same SCODE you get from 1415.
Tip
Only download the app published by Nepal Telecom. Copycat “balance transfer” apps can’t move NTC balance and some exist only to collect your number and OTP.
Method 3: Transfer Balance Using Self-Care on the NTC Website
Handy if you’re at a computer and your phone is low on battery or storage.
Register once with your mobile number, or Login if you already have an account.
Open the Balance Transfer option in your dashboard.
Enter the receiver’s number and the amount, then confirm.

How to send more than Rs. 500
There’s no single transfer above Rs. 500, but you can split a bigger amount into several transfers on the same day. For example, to send Rs. 1,250:
Sending Rs. 1,250 = 3 transfers
Transfer 1: *422*SCODE*98XXXXXXXX*500#
Rs. 500
Transfer 2: *422*SCODE*98XXXXXXXX*500#
Rs. 500
Transfer 3: *422*SCODE*98XXXXXXXX*250#
Rs. 250
On paper, 20 transfers of Rs. 500 add up to Rs. 10,000 in one day, as long as you actually have that much balance. In practice, if someone needs a large amount, an online recharge through eSewa, Khalti, IME Pay or a bank app is quicker than twenty USSD sessions.
Can NTC postpaid users transfer balance?
No. Nepal Telecom limits balance transfer to prepaid GSM users. If you’re on postpaid and want to help someone, recharge their number online instead, or look at NTC’s gift pack options for data and voice.
Can you transfer balance from NTC to Ncell?
No. Each operator keeps its own balance, so NTC-to-Ncell and Ncell-to-NTC transfers aren’t possible. If you’re on Ncell, follow my separate guide on how to transfer balance in Ncell.
Balance Transfer Doesn’t Extend Validity: Know the Alternatives
This is the detail most people miss. A balance transfer adds money to the receiver’s account, but it doesn’t push their SIM’s validity date forward. If the receiver’s validity has expired, the transferred balance won’t fix that. Pick the right tool for the problem:
Option

Best when

Online recharge

Fix
“Connection problem or invalid MMI code”
Wrong SIM slot, a typo in the code, or a dropped USSD session
Dial from the NTC SIM, recheck every star and the final #, then try once more
Invalid security code
Old or mistyped SCODE
Send SCODE to 1415 again and use the code in the latest reply
Insufficient balance
You don’t have enough main balance for the amount
Check with *400# and send a smaller amount
Amount rejected
Below Rs. 10 or above Rs. 500
Keep each transfer between 10 and 500; split larger amounts
Transfer refused late in the day
You’ve used all 20 daily transfers
Wait until the next day, or recharge the receiver online
No reply from 1415
Network delay or an account/registration issue
Retry later, use the app instead, or call 1498
No confirmation SMS
SMS delivery delay
Check both balances with *400# before sending again, so you don’t send twice
Can’t transfer at all
You’re on postpaid, or sending to a non-NTC number
Balance transfer is NTC prepaid only; use an online recharge
If none of these fixes work, call Nepal Telecom mobile customer care on 1498 from your NTC SIM. If SCODE requests keep failing, it’s also worth confirming that the SIM is registered in your name; here’s how to check the SIM owner name for NTC and Ncell.
Keep Your Security Code Safe: The Scam to Watch For
Your SCODE is the only thing standing between your balance and anyone who knows your number. The common trick goes like this:
1. The call
Someone claims to be from NTC, a prize draw or a bank and says you’ve won something.
2. The ask
They ask for your security code, or tell you to dial a *422* code “to verify”.
3. The loss
That code sends your balance to their number, up to Rs. 500 at a time.
Nobody from Nepal Telecom will ask for your SCODE. Treat anyone who does as a scammer.
Never dial a *422* code that someone else dictates to you.
Don’t share your OTP from the app either; it approves the transfer just like the code does.
If you think someone has your code, call 1498 and ask what they can do to secure your account.
Sent to the wrong number? A transfer to a valid NTC number goes through and there’s no self-service undo. Politely call or text the person who received it and ask them to send it back, and contact 1498 if they don’t respond. This is exactly why the Rs. 10 test transfer is worth it for new numbers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the code to transfer balance from NTC to NTC?
Dial *422*SecurityCode*RecipientNumber*Amount# from your NTC prepaid SIM. For example, *422*12345678*98XXXXXXXX*100# sends Rs. 100 to 98XXXXXXXX.
How do I get my NTC security code?
Send an SMS with the text SCODE to 1415. You’ll get an 8-digit security code by SMS. Keep it private.
Can I transfer NTC balance without a security code?
Yes. Use the Transfer Balance feature in the official Nepal Telecom app, which confirms with an OTP, or use Self-Care on ntc.net.np.
What is the minimum and maximum NTC balance transfer amount?
You can transfer from Rs. 10 up to Rs. 500 per transfer, with a maximum of 20 transfers per day.
How can I send more than Rs. 500 in NTC?
Split the amount into several transfers of Rs. 500 or less. For Rs. 1,250, send Rs. 500, Rs. 500 and Rs. 250. You can make up to 20 transfers a day.
Is there a charge for NTC balance transfer?
Nepal Telecom doesn’t list a service charge for balance transfer. Check your balance with *400# before and after if you want to confirm the exact amount deducted.
Can NTC postpaid users transfer balance?
No. Balance transfer is only available to NTC prepaid GSM users.
Can I transfer balance from NTC to Ncell?
No. Balance can only be transferred between NTC numbers, not to or from Ncell.
Does balance transfer increase SIM validity?
No. The receiver gets the balance, but their SIM validity date doesn’t change.
What if I transfer balance to the wrong NTC number?
The transfer can’t be reversed by yourself. Contact the person who received it and ask them to send it back, or call NTC customer care on 1498. Sending Rs. 10 first to a new number helps avoid this.

NTC USSD Codes List (2026): Every Nepal Telecom Short Code That Actually Works
Last verified against Nepal Telecom's official short-code pages: 19 September 2026 · Written and tested on a live NTC prepaid SIM in Kathmandu.
Quick Answer
The five NTC USSD codes most people are actually looking for:
*400# balance · *9# your own number · *1415# packages · *1477# Namaste Credit (loan) · *922# SIM owner name
Open your dialer, type the code exactly as shown, press call. No internet needed, no charge.
Every NTC user hits the same wall eventually. You're at a tea shop in Baneshwor, your data dies mid-call, and you cannot remember whether the balance code is *400# or *440#. You search for it, and you land on a page that dumps forty codes in one unsorted table — half of them retired years ago — with no way of telling which ones still work.
This page fixes that. Below is the complete NTC USSD codes list for 2026, grouped by what you're actually trying to do, with every code marked as officially listed by Nepal Telecom, widely used but not on NTC's current pages, or retired. It also covers the things the other NTC code lists leave out entirely: the hidden GSM interrogation codes that work on any NTC SIM, the call-forwarding USSD scam that has been circulating in Nepal, which codes silently fail on postpaid, and how to fix the "Connection problem or invalid MMI code" error.

If you only save one thing from this page, save this. These ten codes cover roughly 90% of what NTC subscribers dial in a normal month.

Official listed on Nepal Telecom's own short-code or service pages. Community widely used and reported working, but not spelled out on NTC's current public pages — try it, but don't be surprised if it's been changed. Retired no longer reliable after NTC's move to the convergent billing system.
How to Dial an NTC USSD Code (and What USSD Actually Is)
USSD stands for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data. In plain terms, it's a real-time text channel between your phone and Nepal Telecom's servers that runs over the signalling network rather than over data. That's why a USSD code works when your data pack has expired, when you're on 2G in a village with one bar, and on a Rs. 1,500 button phone that has never seen an app store.
Open the phone dialer — not the SMS app, not a browser.
Type the code exactly, including the leading * and the closing #.
Press the call button. On a dual-SIM phone, press the call button for the SIM slot holding your NTC SIM.
A text box appears within a few seconds. For menu codes like *1415#, type the option number and press Send.
Two things worth knowing that most guides skip. First, dialling a USSD code costs nothing — the session itself isn't charged, though subscribing to a package from inside the menu obviously deducts the package price. Second, USSD sessions time out, usually in about 30–60 seconds. If you wander off mid-menu and come back, the session is dead and you'll get an error; redial rather than assuming the code is broken.

The difference between *9# and *922# confuses a lot of people. The first tells you the number of the SIM in your hand. The second tells you whose citizenship document that SIM is registered against — which matters when you buy a second-hand phone with a SIM still in it, or when you're trying to work out whether an old SIM is still in your own name for KYC purposes. If the name that comes back isn't yours, you'll want to read our full walkthrough on how to check the SIM owner's name in Nepal for NTC and Ncell, which also covers the transfer process at an NTC counter.
Balance expiry is shown too
The *400# response doesn't just show rupees — it returns your balance validity/expiry date as well. That date is the one that actually matters for a SIM you barely use, because an unused NTC prepaid number can eventually be reclaimed. Dial it once every couple of months on a dormant SIM.

Here's the practical distinction. *1415# is a shopping menu — it shows you what you can buy. *1415*55# is an inventory check — it tells you what you've already got left. Most people dial the first when they actually wanted the second, then get annoyed at scrolling through offers. If you want the full set of methods, including the app view and the SMS route, we've broken it all down in how to check your NTC data balance.
One deliberate omission on this page: we don't list package prices or MB amounts. NTC revises bundles frequently, and a code list that hardcodes "Rs. 49 for 1GB" is wrong within a month. Dial *1415# and you'll always get the live catalogue.

Balance transfer: the rules nobody mentions
Balance transfer fails far more often than it succeeds on the first attempt, and it's almost always one of these constraints rather than a broken code:
It is a prepaid GSM to prepaid GSM service. Sending to a postpaid number won't go through.
The amount must fall inside the per-transaction limit NTC sets (commonly Rs. 10 to Rs. 500).
There is a daily cap on the number of transfers from one number.
The security code is per-request, not permanent. Get a fresh one via SMS each time; a code you screenshotted last month will be rejected.
The amount goes in as a plain number. Don't type "Rs." or a decimal.
Never share your security code
The SCODE SMS is the only thing standing between a stranger and your balance. Don't read it aloud on a call, don't forward the SMS, and don't include it in a screenshot when asking for help in a Facebook group. NTC staff will never ask you for it.
NTC Loan Code: Namaste Credit (Sapati)
Nepal Telecom's emergency balance service is called Namaste Credit, and locally almost everyone calls it sapati. It's not a cash loan — it's an advance on your own airtime that gets recovered from your next recharge.

Eligibility is the part that trips people up. Namaste Credit is offered to prepaid subscribers whose SIM has been in use for a minimum period (commonly cited as three months), and the amount you're offered depends on how long and how actively you've used the line. Two people standing next to each other can dial the same code and see different offers — or one may see none at all. That's the eligibility engine working as designed, not a fault with your SIM. The mechanics, repayment behaviour and what to do when the code returns nothing are covered in detail in our guide on how to take a loan (sapati) on NTC.

Yes, the ISD codes look backwards — they aren't a typo
On NTC, #331*0000#enables international dialling and *331*0000#disables it. This follows the GSM call-barring convention, where * sets a bar and # removes one — you are switching the outgoing-international bar on and off, not the service. Barring international calls on a SIM you lend to someone is genuinely useful.
Hidden GSM Codes That Work on Any NTC SIM
This is the section missing from every other NTC code list, and it's the one that solves the weirdest problems. These aren't Nepal Telecom codes — they're standard GSM/3GPP codes baked into the network and your handset, which means they work on an NTC SIM whether or not NTC documents them.

Show IMEI
*#06#
Displays your handset's IMEI instantly — needed for police reports, warranty claims and MDMS registration.
Check forwarding status
*#21#
Shows whether any unconditional call/SMS/data forwarding is active, and to which number.
Check conditional forwarding
*#62#
Shows where calls go when your phone is unreachable or switched off.
Check no-answer/busy diversion
*#61# / *#67#

Hide your caller ID
*#31#

#31#Number
Withholds your number for that single call only.
Why these matter: if your friends say your phone "rings once then goes dead," or your calls are landing somewhere unexpected, dial *#21# before you blame the network or buy a new SIM. Nine times out of ten there's a stale diversion rule sitting on the line from an old voicemail service or a forwarding code someone set months ago. ##002# clears it in two seconds.

A 4G-activated SIM is only one of three conditions. You also need a handset that supports NTC's LTE bands, and you need to be standing inside actual 4G coverage. If *444# reports that your SIM isn't 4G-capable, no code will fix it — that's an older SIM and needs a physical swap at an NTC office. While you're considering a swap, note that an NTC eSIM sidesteps the plastic entirely, and the activation flow there is handled through NTC's eSIM portal rather than a USSD code.
For roaming, activate before you fly. Prepaid users can do it from *1415*7# or the NTC app. Postpaid roaming carries a minimum balance requirement and usually a counter visit with photo ID. Once you land abroad, *400# still reports your balance normally, but recharging is far easier through the app or a wallet than through any USSD string.

Value-added services are also the most common source of the "my balance disappears on its own" complaint. A caller tune or alert service subscribed to once during a promotion keeps renewing quietly. Prepaid vs Postpaid: Which Codes Actually Work for You
This is the single biggest reason a code "doesn't work," and no other NTC code list spells it out. Several codes are built around a prepaid balance object that postpaid accounts simply don't have.

USSD Safety: Codes You Should Never Dial Because Someone Asked You To
The call-forwarding scam
A caller claims to be from Nepal Telecom, an "offer department," or a bank, and asks you to dial a code to "verify your SIM," "claim a bonus," or "fix a network problem." The code they read out is almost always a call-forwarding string in the **21* or **67* family. The moment you dial it, your incoming calls — including every OTP delivered by voice — start ringing on their phone instead of yours.
Three rules that will keep you out of trouble:
Never dial a code someone reads to you over the phone. Nepal Telecom does not need you to dial anything to verify your identity.
A legitimate code never starts with a number you were given. Genuine NTC codes are short and public — they're all on this page and on ntc.net.np. If it contains a ten-digit mobile number, it is forwarding your calls somewhere.
If you already dialled one, act now. Dial *#21# to see what's active, then ##002# to clear every diversion, then call 1498 and change any account passwords that use SMS or voice OTP.
The same caution applies to balance transfer. Nobody from NTC will ever ask for your SCODE, and an "agent" who wants you to dial *422*…# on their instruction is asking you to hand over your own airtime.
NTC USSD Code Not Working? 11 Fixes, Ordered by How Often They Work
If you're seeing "Connection problem or invalid MMI code" — the single most common USSD error on Android — work down this list in order.
Check which SIM you dialled from. On a dual-SIM phone the dialler defaults to SIM 1. If your NTC SIM sits in slot 2, the code went to the wrong operator and failed. Long-press the call button to pick the slot, or set NTC as the default for calls.
Redial once. USSD sessions genuinely drop under load, especially in the evening. A second attempt fixes this more often than anything else.
Retype the code from scratch. Don't edit a code sitting in your dialler history — an invisible leading space or a missing # is enough to break it.
Toggle airplane mode on for ten seconds, then off. This forces a fresh network attach and clears a stuck session.
Check your signal. USSD rides the signalling channel; one bar in a concrete stairwell isn't enough. Step outside or near a window.
Switch network mode. On some handsets, a locked "LTE only" setting blocks USSD. Set the preferred network type back to an auto/LTE-3G-2G option and retry.
Turn off Wi-Fi calling / VoWiFi temporarily. It can intercept dialler input on certain phones.
Confirm the code applies to your plan. See the prepaid vs postpaid table — a prepaid-only code returns an error on a postpaid line, and that's expected behaviour, not a fault.
Check eligibility for the service. Namaste Credit and some offers require a minimum SIM age and are rolled out in phases. A new SIM may simply not qualify yet.
Restart the phone. Clears the radio state completely. Worth doing before you conclude the code is dead.
Check whether the code is retired. Cross-check against the retired codes section below — a lot of pages still publish strings NTC stopped using years ago.
Still nothing? Call 1498 from the NTC SIM. It's free, and the IVR at 1415 can do balance, recharge and PUK lookups without any USSD at all.

The honest summary: USSD wins on speed and reliability, the app wins on visibility. Keep the five cheat-sheet codes in your head and the app on your phone, and you're covered either way.
Retired and Changed NTC Codes
After Nepal Telecom migrated prepaid and postpaid mobile onto a convergent billing system, a batch of legacy short codes stopped behaving as documented on older blog posts. If a code below is what you found elsewhere, that's why it failed.
*1414# — first call activation. Rarely needed now; new SIMs activate automatically.
*1400# as a standalone menu — MCA has moved to the explicit *1400*1# / *1400*2# form.
*411# for recharge — superseded by *412*PIN# on GSM.
CDMA-specific strings such as the night-call package code — largely irrelevant as CDMA has wound down.
Old SEE/result IVR codes (1600, 1601, 1602) — seasonal, active only around result publication.
What I Learned Actually Using These Codes Every Week
I've run an NTC prepaid SIM as my primary line in Kathmandu for years, alongside a second operator in slot 2. A few things you only learn by dialling these daily:
The dual-SIM trap is real and it's the number one false alarm. I spent twenty minutes convinced *400# was down before realising the dialler had defaulted to the other SIM. If a code that worked yesterday fails today, check the slot before anything else.
*1415*55# is the code worth memorising, not *1415#. Nine times out of ten the real question is "how much data do I have left," and the offers menu is the slow way to almost-answer it.
Namaste Credit is best treated as a one-day bridge. It's recovered from your next top-up, so if you take it on the 20th and only recharge on the 30th, you're effectively running on fumes for ten days. Dial *1477# and check status before assuming you have full balance.
Get the SCODE immediately before transferring, not in advance. I've had transfers rejected because I was pasting a security code from a message an hour old.
Deactivation codes are worth running on any SIM you've had for years. On an old number I recovered a small but steady monthly drain from a caller tune subscribed to during some long-forgotten festival offer.
Take a screenshot of *#06# now. The day you need your IMEI is the day your phone is gone and you can't dial anything.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the NTC balance check code?
Dial *400# from your NTC SIM. The response shows your remaining balance along with its expiry date.
How do I check my own NTC number?
Dial *9#. Your own mobile number appears on screen — useful when you've just bought a SIM or swapped handsets.
What is the NTC loan code for sapati?
Dial *1477# and choose the activate option, or send START to 1477. The service is called Namaste Credit and is available to eligible prepaid subscribers.
How do I check how much data I have left on NTC?
*1415*55# reports remaining data, minutes and validity. *1415# is the menu for buying new packs, not for checking what you already have.
What is the NTC SIM owner check code?
Dial *922# to see the name the SIM is registered under. This is different from *9#, which returns the number itself.
How do I transfer balance from one NTC number to another?
First send SCODE to 1415 to get a security code, then dial *422*SecurityCode*MobileNumber*Amount#. It works between prepaid GSM numbers, within NTC's per-transaction and daily limits.
What is the NTC 4G activation code?
Dial *444#. The same menu also handles VoLTE activation. If your SIM is too old for 4G, no code will help — it needs a physical replacement at an NTC office.
Are NTC USSD codes free?
Yes, dialling the code costs nothing. Charges apply only to what you subscribe to inside the menu, and some IVR helplines are charged at airtime rates.
Do NTC USSD codes work abroad?
Some do while roaming — balance check generally works normally. Recharge and package purchases are far more reliable through the Nepal Telecom app over Wi-Fi, or by having someone in Nepal top up your number.
Why does my NTC code say "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"?
Most often the code was dialled from the wrong SIM slot on a dual-SIM phone, the session timed out, or the code is prepaid-only and you're on postpaid. Work through the 11 fixes above.
How do I check if my calls are being forwarded?
Dial *#21# to view active diversions, and ##002# to cancel all of them. Do this immediately if you dialled a code someone gave you over the phone.
What is the NTC customer care number?
1498 for mobile support and 198 for landline, ADSL and fiber faults, both free from an NTC line. From outside Nepal, call +977-1-5901498.
Bottom Line
Five codes cover most of daily life on Nepal Telecom — *400#, *9#, *922#, *1415# and *1477# — and the rest of this list is there for the day you need something specific. Bookmark the page, screenshot the cheat sheet, and if a code ever stops behaving, check the SIM slot before you check anything else.
Nepal Telecom can revise short codes without notice, so ntc.net.np remains the final authority. Everything marked Official above was checked against NTC's own service pages on the date at the top of this article, and this page is re-verified rather than left to rot.
About this guide
Written by Wilson Shrestha, a Kathmandu-based web developer who has used an NTC prepaid line as a primary number for over a decade. Codes on this page are separated into officially documented and community-reported rather than merged into one unverified table, and outdated strings are marked retired instead of quietly deleted. Spotted a code that has changed? Let us know and it gets corrected the same week.
Check SIM Owner Name in Nepal: NTC & NCELL USSD Codes (2026 Guide)
If you've ever picked up an old SIM, bought a "pre-used" number from a shop, or simply forgot whose name your own NTC or NCELL number is registered under, you can find out in under 10 seconds — no app, no login, and no data cost. Just dial one short USSD code from the SIM you want to check.
Both codes are free to use and work directly through your phone's dialer — no internet connection required. Below, we'll walk through the exact steps for each operator, explain why the name shown might look shortened or unfamiliar, what to do if your SIM isn't registered under your own name, and how to avoid the fake "SIM owner lookup" websites that have been circulating on Facebook and Google.
Nepal Telecom officially lists this code under its "Useful Short Codes" page as the way to check your registered SIM owner. It works on any NTC prepaid or postpaid number.
Insert or select the NTC SIM in your phone (important on dual-SIM phones — see the note below).
Open your phone's dialer app.
Type *922# and press the call/dial button.
A pop-up will appear within a few seconds showing the name registered against that number.
If the SIM is registered correctly, the name that appears should match your citizenship or passport exactly (or very close to it — more on that below).
How to Check NCELL SIM Owner Name (*9966#)
NCELL uses a similar self-service USSD code for owner verification. It's just as quick and works on any active NCELL SIM.
Make sure the NCELL SIM you want to check is the one currently active/selected in your phone.
Open the dialer.
Dial *9966# and hit call.
The response screen will display the registered owner's name for that number.
Dual-SIM phone tip: If your phone has two SIM slots, most dialers will ask you to choose which SIM to dial from before the code goes through. Always confirm you've selected the correct SIM — a common mistake is accidentally checking the wrong number's owner name because the phone defaulted to "SIM 1" instead of "SIM 2".
Why You Should Check Your SIM Owner Name
This isn't just a curiosity check — it has real, practical consequences in Nepal:
Legal compliance: The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) requires every active SIM to be linked to the actual user's citizenship, passport, or valid ID. Using a SIM registered under someone else's name technically violates this requirement.
Avoiding service suspension: Operators periodically run KYC (Know Your Customer) verification drives. Numbers with mismatched or incomplete registration details risk temporary deactivation.
Buying a second-hand or "old" number: If you bought a number from a shop or a friend, checking the owner name confirms whether the registration was actually transferred — many resellers skip this step.
Loan and VAS eligibility: Services like Namaste Credit (emergency balance loan) and certain NTC offers are tied to KYC status, so a mismatched name can occasionally cause eligibility issues.
Fraud prevention: If a lost or stolen SIM gets reactivated, checking ownership is the fastest way to confirm whether it's still legitimately yours.
What the Result Actually Means (Read This Before You Panic)
A detail most guides skip: the name shown by *922# or *9966# is often abbreviated or truncated because USSD replies have strict character limits. Don't assume something is wrong just because the display looks slightly off. Here's what's normal and what isn't:
Normal: Middle names shortened to initials (e.g., "Ram B Thapa" instead of "Ram Bahadur Thapa").
Normal: Titles or honorifics dropped entirely.
Normal: Minor spelling variations if your ID was transliterated from Nepali to English at the point of sale.
Not normal: A completely different first and last name that isn't yours, a shop/business name, or a family member's name you didn't authorize.
If it falls into the "not normal" category, treat it as a genuine mismatch and follow the re-registration steps further down this page.
Code Not Working? Troubleshoot It First
Before assuming your SIM has a problem, rule out these common causes — something none of the existing guides on this topic actually cover:
No or weak network signal: USSD codes need at least a basic 2G/GSM signal to process. Move to an open area or near a window and retry.
Wrong SIM selected: On dual-SIM and eSIM-enabled phones, double-check the dial confirmation prompt before hitting call.
Network congestion: USSD gateways occasionally get overloaded during peak hours (evenings, festival periods). Wait a minute and try again.
Airplane mode or Wi-Fi calling only: USSD requires an active cellular connection, not just internet/Wi-Fi.
Very new SIM: If you activated the SIM in the last few hours, registration data may still be syncing across the operator's system. Give it up to 24 hours.
Still failing? Call customer care directly — 1498 for NTC or 9005 for NCELL — and ask them to verify your registration over the phone with your ID details.
SIM Not Registered in Your Name? Here's How to Fix It
If the check shows someone else's name — a shop, a reseller, a relative, or a stranger — you can legally re-register the SIM in your own name. This is a free process at both operators.
Carry the physical SIM, your original citizenship certificate, passport, or driving license, and one passport-size photo.
Visit the nearest Namaste (NTC) customer service center or NCELL care/dealer outlet.
Request a KYC update / re-registration for the number.
For NCELL specifically, be ready to list several frequently dialed numbers from that SIM over the past few months — this helps the operator confirm you're the genuine, ongoing user of the number.
Fill out the new KYC form on the spot; the update usually reflects within a few hours to a day.
Re-dial *922# or *9966# afterward to confirm the name has updated correctly.
Personal tip: Bring a photocopy of your ID in addition to the original — some smaller franchise outlets outside Kathmandu still ask for one to keep on file, and it saves you a second trip if their scanner is down.
Beware: Fake "SIM Owner Lookup" Websites
Important: There is no legitimate website, app, or public code that lets you look up the registered owner name of someone else's phone number in Nepal. SIM registration data is protected as private information under NTA regulations, and operators only reveal it to the verified holder of that specific SIM.
Be cautious of pages that promise to reveal "any number's owner name" for a fee, after watching an ad, or after you enter your own phone number and OTP. These are almost always data-harvesting or phishing attempts designed to steal your personal number, OTP codes, or ID photos. The only two working checks are the official codes above, and they only work on the SIM currently inside your own phone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I check any random NTC or NCELL number's owner name?
No. Both *922# and *9966# only return results for the SIM physically active in your own phone at the time of dialing. There's no way to check ownership of a number you don't hold, and any service claiming otherwise should be avoided.
Is checking my SIM owner name free?
Yes, both USSD codes are completely free and don't deduct any balance or data.
Why does my SIM show a shortened or slightly different name?
USSD replies have a limited character count, so middle names are often abbreviated to initials and honorifics are dropped. This is normal as long as the first and last name clearly match yours.
What if the owner name shown is completely wrong?
Visit the nearest NTC or NCELL service center with your original ID and a passport-size photo to re-register the SIM under your name, free of charge.
Does this work on eSIMs too?
Yes. Both codes work the same way whether you're using a physical SIM or an eSIM profile, as long as that eSIM line is active and selected for calls.
My number shows "no response" or fails to load — what now?
Check your signal strength, confirm you dialed from the correct SIM, and retry after a minute. If it still fails, call 1498 (NTC) or 9005 (NCELL) for manual verification.
Borrow mobile balance instantly on your NTC prepaid SIM — here's exactly how.
How to Take an NTC Loan: Borrow Mobile Balance in Nepal (2026 Guide)
Running low on balance with no time to recharge? NTC (Nepal Telecom) lets prepaid customers borrow a small amount of credit instantly through its loan service — known as Sapati or Namaste Credit. There's no application form, no documents, and no bank-style approval wait. You dial a code, confirm, and the credit lands on your SIM within seconds.
⚡
Quick answer
Dial *1477# on your NTC prepaid SIM (or send START by SMS to 1477) and follow the menu to borrow balance. The amount is deducted automatically from your next recharge.
The NTC loan service is a short-term mobile balance credit for prepaid customers — not a cash loan or financial product. When your balance runs out, NTC advances you a small amount of credit that you can use for calls, SMS, or data. The borrowed amount, plus any service charge, is recovered automatically the next time you top up.
This service has gone by a couple of names over the years, including Sapati and Namaste Credit, but the mechanism is the same: borrow now, repay on your next recharge.
Who Is Eligible for an NTC Loan?
📱
Prepaid only
Postpaid lines are not eligible for this feature.
📅
An established SIM
Very new SIMs usually aren't eligible until they build a few months of recharge history.
🚫
No paperwork
No credit score, ID, or income document is required — eligibility is based on usage, not documents.
If the loan option doesn't appear in your USSD menu, it usually means your SIM hasn't met NTC's internal usage threshold yet rather than a fault on your end.
How to Take an NTC Loan: Step-by-Step
1
Dial *1477# on your NTC prepaid SIM.
2
Select the loan/credit option from the menu that appears (wording can vary slightly by update).
3
Confirm the amount offered to you — this is set by NTC and isn't user-adjustable.
4
The credit is added to your balance within seconds — use it for calls, SMS, or data as normal.
5
On your next recharge, the borrowed amount (plus any service charge) is deducted automatically before the rest of your top-up is applied.
💡
Tip: If *1477# doesn't go through, use the alternative method — send START by SMS to 1477.
NTC Loan Amount and Service Charge
Detail
What to expect
Loan amount
Set by NTC for your SIM — historically in the NPR 20–30 range, though this has changed over time
Service charge
A small fee may be added on top of the borrowed amount
Who sets the amount
NTC, based on your account's usage history — not something you can request or increase manually
Transferability
Borrowed credit cannot be transferred to another number
⚠️
Note: NTC has adjusted the loan amount before, so treat the figures above as a general guide rather than a guarantee. Your USSD menu (*1477#) always shows the exact amount and any charge before you confirm — check there for the current number.
How Repayment Works
You don't need to repay the loan manually. The amount you borrowed, plus any service charge, is deducted automatically from your very next recharge — before the rest of that top-up is added to your usable balance. If your next recharge is smaller than what you owe, only part of the debt may be recovered, and the remainder is typically carried over to the following recharge.
How to Check Your NTC Loan Status
Send status by SMS to 1477 to check whether you currently have an active loan and how much you owe.
How to Stop or Deactivate the NTC Loan Service
If you'd rather not be offered balance loans at all, send STOP by SMS to 1477. If you have an outstanding loan at the time, it's typically settled from your existing balance before the service is deactivated, and you'll get an SMS confirmation.
Common Problems and How to Fix Them
*1477# doesn't respond:Make sure you're on an active NTC prepaid SIM with network coverage, then try the SMS method (START to 1477) instead.
No loan option appears in the menu:Your SIM likely hasn't met NTC's minimum usage history yet — this typically resolves after a few months of regular recharges.
Loan amount wasn't fully deducted after recharge:If your top-up was smaller than the amount owed, the remaining balance is usually carried over to your next recharge.
Unsure if you still owe money:Send status to 1477 to check before recharging.

What Is Ncell Balance Transfer?
Ncell balance transfer is an official value-added service that lets a prepaid Ncell subscriber send part of their own main balance to another Ncell prepaid number, instantly, over USSD. There’s no app, data connection, or Ncell account login required — it works on any basic or smartphone the moment you can dial a code.
It’s commonly used for:
Emergencies — topping up someone who’s completely out of balance and needs to make an urgent call.
Helping family in remote areas — where the nearest recharge point is far away.
Splitting a recharge — one person tops up a bigger amount, then shares it across a few numbers.
Quick favours — sending a small gift balance to a friend or kid’s phone.
Dial *101# to see your current balance. You need enough to cover the amount sent plus the Rs 1.27 fee.
2. Both SIMs must be Ncell prepaid
Postpaid numbers can’t send or receive this way. Both the sender and receiver must be Ncell prepaid.
3. Your SIM must be 90+ days old
Brand new SIMs can’t use balance transfer until they’ve been active for at least 90 days.
4. Double-check the number
Save the recipient’s number first and read it back digit by digit — a wrong digit sends your balance to a stranger, and it can’t be reversed.
Step-by-Step: How to Transfer Balance on Ncell
1
Open your phone’s dialer
No app needed — this works from the standard call/dial screen on any phone.
2
Dial the transfer code
Type *17122* followed by the 10-digit receiver’s number, then *, then the amount in rupees, then #. Example — sending Rs 100 to 980XXXXXXX:
*17122*980XXXXXXX*100#
Tip: long-press the code on your phone to select and copy it. If that doesn’t work on your network, try the alternate code *133*980XXXXXXX*100#.
3
Press call / send
A USSD pop-up confirms the receiver’s number and amount. Review it carefully.
4
Confirm and wait for the SMS
Both you and the recipient get an instant SMS confirmation. The amount (minus the Rs 1.27 fee from your side) lands in the recipient’s main balance immediately.

Find Balance Transfer: Look under Services or VAS (Value Added Services) in the menu.
Enter the recipient and amount, then confirm — the same Rs 10–500 limit and Rs 1.27 fee apply.
Note: Third-party “balance transfer” services outside the official USSD code or My Ncell app are not endorsed by Ncell. Avoid giving your PIN, OTP, or account details to any app or page that isn’t Ncell’s own.
Troubleshooting Common Problems
Problem
Likely Cause & Fix
“Insufficient balance”
Your balance is less than the amount + Rs 1.27 fee. Dial *101# to confirm, then send a smaller amount.
“Service not available”
Your SIM may be under 90 days old, is postpaid, or you’ve hit the 3-transfer daily cap. Wait until tomorrow or check SIM status.
Request times out / no response
Network congestion. Move to an area with better signal and retry after a minute or two.
Recipient says balance didn’t arrive
Transfers are usually instant. Ask them to dial *101# after a few minutes; if it’s still missing after 30 minutes, contact Ncell support with your SMS confirmation as proof.
Sent to the wrong number
Balance transfers can’t be reversed by self-service. Contact Ncell customer care immediately — approval isn’t guaranteed, which is why double-checking the number first matters.
Still stuck? Reach Ncell support by dialing 9999 from your Ncell number, or via ncell.com.np.
Staying Safe from Scams
⚠️ Ncell will never ask you to “dial a code to receive a refund/prize” or share your PIN over a call or SMS. If a message pressures you to urgently transfer balance to “verify your SIM” or “claim a reward,” it’s a scam — delete it and never act on it.
Only trust ncell.com.np and the official My Ncell app — not links shared in SMS or social media comments.
Never share your number’s PIN, OTP, or ID details with anyone claiming to “help” you transfer balance.
Confirm the recipient’s number out loud before pressing call — transfers can’t be undone.
Keep the SMS confirmation as your only proof if a dispute comes up later.
✅ Key Takeaways
Dial *17122*receiver’s number*amount# (or *133*…#) to send Rs 10–500 instantly.
You can do this up to 3 times a day, and a small Rs 1.27 fee applies each time.
Works prepaid-to-prepaid only, and your own SIM must be at least 90 days old.
Transfers are instant and cannot be reversed — always double-check the recipient’s number first.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I transfer balance from Ncell to Ncell?
Dial *17122*, then the receiver’s 10-digit number, then *, then the amount in rupees, then #, and press call. For example, to send Rs 100, dial *17122*980XXXXXXX*100#. If this doesn’t work, try the alternate code *133*980XXXXXXX*100#.
What is the minimum and maximum amount I can transfer?
You can send a minimum of Rs 10 and a maximum of Rs 500 per transfer, up to 3 times a day.
Is there a fee for Ncell balance transfer?
Yes, Ncell charges a small fee of Rs 1.27 (including tax) per transfer, deducted from the sender’s balance along with the amount sent.
Can I transfer balance to a postpaid number, or from a new SIM?
No. Balance transfer only works between two Ncell prepaid numbers, and your own SIM must have been active for at least 90 days before you can use the service.
What should I do if my balance transfer fails?
Check that you have enough balance (amount + Rs 1.27 fee), that the recipient’s number is correct, that you haven’t exceeded 3 transfers today, and that your SIM is prepaid and over 90 days old. If it still fails, retry after a few minutes or contact Ncell support by dialing 9999.
Can I cancel or reverse a balance transfer?
No, balance transfers are instant and final once confirmed. There is no self-service cancellation — if you sent it to the wrong number, contact Ncell customer care right away, though reversal isn’t guaranteed.
How to Check NTC Data Balance: *1415*55# USSD Code, SMS & App Guide
In today’s connected world, staying on top of your mobile data usage is crucial. For NTC (Nepal Telecom) users, knowing how to check your data balance quickly can save you from unexpected interruptions. The fastest way is a single USSD code — *1415*55# — but this guide also covers the SMS, app, and online portal methods, plus the questions NTC users ask most.
⚡ Quick Answer
Dial *1415*55# from your NTC SIM. You’ll get an instant on-screen reply showing your remaining data balance and its expiry date — no internet needed.
Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) codes are a communication protocol used by GSM cellular telephones to communicate with the mobile network operator’s computers. These codes allow users to access various services, such as checking balance, data usage, or even subscribing to new services. For more on how USSD works, see this overview of USSD functionality.
Is *1415# the Same as *1415*55#?
No. Dialing plain *1415# opens Nepal Telecom’s general USSD menu for data packs, combo offers, and account options — it doesn’t show your remaining balance directly. For an instant data-balance reading, dial the full code, *1415*55#. Keep this distinction in mind, since the two codes are easy to mix up.
Why Use USSD Codes for Checking Data Balance?
USSD codes offer a quick and convenient way to access your account information without needing any internet connectivity. This is particularly useful in areas with poor internet coverage. For NTC users, USSD codes are a reliable method to check your data balance instantly, ensuring you can manage your mobile data usage effectively.

Check Data Balance: Navigate to the data balance section within the app.
Using the Online Portal
Alternatively, NTC provides an online portal where users can log in and manage their accounts. This method requires internet access but offers a detailed view of your data usage and other account features.
Keeping track of your data usage helps prevent overages and ensures you are using your plan efficiently. Consider setting up data usage alerts through your phone’s settings to notify you when you’re nearing your limit.
Effective Data Management
Here are some strategies for managing your data usage effectively:
Optimize App Settings: Limit background data usage for apps that consume high amounts of data.
Use Wi-Fi When Available: Connect to Wi-Fi networks whenever possible to conserve mobile data.
Schedule Updates: Set apps and system updates to occur only over Wi-Fi.
By following these tips, you can make the most of your data plan and avoid unexpected overages. Topping up or transferring balance between two NTC numbers is also useful if you’re about to run low before your next recharge.
