What Makes Nepali Age Calculation Different

How to Calculate Your Nepali Age Manually

If you ever need to sanity-check a result or don't have internet access, here's the logic behind the math:

1. Write down your BS date of birth and today's BS date — for example, born 15 Mangsir 2058, today is 31 Bhadra 2083.
2. Subtract year, month, and day separately, treating each column the way you would in a borrow-subtraction problem: 2083 − 2058 = 25 years; Bhadra (month 5) − Mangsir (month 8) needs borrowing, so it becomes 4 years... and so on.
3. When the day count goes negative, borrow a month — using the actual number of days in the previous Nepali month for that year (not a flat 30), since BS months vary between 29 and 32 days.
4. When the month count goes negative, borrow a year and add 12 to the month.
5. The result is your age in completed years, months, and days.
